History
The Winery
Collemattoni takes its name from the farmhouse, which, over time, has become the trademark of our winery and of our wines. The farmhouse dates back to at least 1672, year in which it is registered in the parish archives as a family home.
Collemattoni is located on a hill top on the south side of the municipal area of Montalcino, just a short distance from the village of Sant’Angelo in Colle.
The first record of the Bucci family dates to 1798 with Giuseppe Bucci « Zappaterra» (Digger), head of a large family.
Today, the estate is run by Marcello Bucci with the support of his parents Ado and Vera as well as uncle Franco. The philosophy of the winery allows for technology but in a style that comes from belonging to the place.
In 2012 Collemattoni has obtained the organic certification and everything is done in the full respect of the environment.
Thanks to the presence of a biomass fuelled heating system and solar panels, we are able to produce the 80% of the electricity needed at the winery.
The Vineyards
The Collemattoni winery currently features around 11 hectares of vineyards, mostly Sangiovese, in five different areas.
Collemattoni Vineyard (with less than 2 hectares) is near Sant’Angelo in Colle at 420 meters above the sea level, surrounding the main buildings of the estate and representing the heart of the winery.
Fontelontano Vineyard (around half hectar) is located between Sant’Angelo in Colle and Collemattoni at 380 meters above the sea level. The name is linked to the presence of water source where in the old times people use to get their water for their homes. The Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is produced from this vineyard only in the best vintages. Fontelontano vineyard dates back to 1984 and is the oldest vineyard at Collemattoni.
Sesta Vineyard (2,70 hectares) is located between the towns of Sant’Angelo in Colle and Castelnuovo dell’Abate on a slight slope opposite Monte Amiata at 350 m above the sea level.
Cava Vineyard (1,80 hectares) is located in Castelnuovo dell’Abate in an alabaster quarry (locally called onyx). The local quarry was used to build the Romanesque Abbey of Sant’Antimo.
Orcia Vineyard (around 4,5 hectares) is located near Sant’Angelo in Colle. Here we also produce some Trebbiano and Canaiolo varieties.
Our Cellar
Our wine cellar of 700 square meters was completely renovated in 2012 and advanced technology applied during the installation, allows us to control all the process from fermentation till bottling.
Wine aging runs in natural conditions under the ground level.
The grapes, picked entirely by hand, are selected during the harvest and checked once again in the cellar by expert hands on the sorting table. After destemming, the grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats.
The heart of the cellar is the ageing area with Slavonian oak barrels and French oak tonneaux.
Despite the use of modern system and advanced technology, the cellar is intentionally «very traditional».
Here the Bucci family welcomes visitors and clients in an enchanting place from where the majestic countryside that extends from Sant’Angelo in Colle to the sea can be admired.

Rosso di Montalcino 2015

BMS Review
This wine expresses the typical fruity and flower aromas of a young wine made with Sangiovese. This Rosso di Montalcino is lean and elegant, with strawberry and cherry flavors etched into a concrete structure.

Adone IGT Toscano Rosso 2015

BMS Review
This is more than a simple every day wine. The wine is a blend of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot. On the nose, the wine displays soft notes of red fruits and earth. On the palate, this straight forward red is light bodied with soft berry notes and hints of spice. Macerated for 10 days in stainless steel, this would pair well with tomato based soups and pizza.

Rosato Rose 2016

BMS Review
This wine is made from 100% Sangiovese from Montalcino. This salmon hued wine is fresh, lively and juicy. Aromas of crushed strawberry, melon, watermelon and minerals, the flavors carry through on the palate with fresh persistence. This is by far the best Rose I have had from Italy and at this price point you cant beat it !!
