History
Piero’s father founded the winery in 1953.
Piero with the help of his wife, Lucia, his daughter Emanuela and his son Pierguido manages all phases of production from the vineyard to the winery.
The Busso family motto is: The wine is a reflection of the territory.
The unique characteristics of ideal exposure and soil content of our vineyards gives us all of the elements needed to make a rich harvest and create great wines.
A strategy of selection of the grapes and the holistic use of winemaking techniques that optimize the intrinsic quality of the product.
All of these conditions are favourable for making a great wine, yet they mustn’t be altered by any chemical and industrial compound. Our awareness and approach is nature friendly. Our priority is viticulture that respects the soil, the vines and the environment.
Everything is arranged in order to respect the fruit, its taste (its aroma and flavours) and its origin.
The harvest is carried out entirely by hand, the date for picking the grapes is chosen after a careful analysis of their ripening stage. The clusters of grapes are placed in small baskets to avoid squeezing which could cause oxidation of the juice. After the destemming process, the grapes are lightly pressed, then put into temperature controlled tanks.
Each vineyard has its own parcels, and each parcel its own vinification and tank. Such a rigorous selection is done in order to highlight the quality and uniqueness of each type of soil on the property.
Most wines mature in large oak barrels and a few of them in barrique barrels always paying the outmost attention not to hide the wines originality but to exalt their uniqueness.
The vineyards cover an area of 10 hectares and they produce an average of 45.000 bottles of wines a year.
These are the four magic words that are the basis of our passion and love for the work we do. In fact these four words describe the elements that govern our way of life. One vine – One wine.
The grape varietal dictates the vineyard as much as the vineyard dictates the grape varietal. Certain soils are suitable for different grape varieties, it is counterproductive to try to plant according to market demand. We can never forget that the quality of the wine in the glass, whether Barbaresco or Dolcetto, above all depends on the location where the vine is cultivated and the grape that is produced.
The vineyard must be managed with great care and with the understanding that the first thing to influence the quality of the wine is the work that is done in the vineyard, because, as an old farmers saying goes - that nature gives what she gets.
The harvest, which for us... is a second Christmas! It is a time of celebration, however, it is also the most crucial time of the year. The harvest and the very important work that follows in the winery must be managed with rigorous attention.
And finally the wine the sweet nectar, the living thing that evolves and matures under the watchful eyes of the entire Busso family until the moment when it is ready to be tasted.

Wow. What incredible notes of tobacco and strawberries. Impressive complexity on the nose. Medium to full body with tons of tannins. Very dense and rich. Chewy yet polished tannins. Drink in 2020.

A mature red characterized by cherries, strawberries and hot stones. Medium body and some exceptional linearity and precision. Quite tannic. Needs a year or two to soften.

Aromas of blue flower, baking spice, black-skinned berry, leather and a whisper of well-integrated oak slowly emerge on this. The dense, chewy palate doles out layers of fleshy black cherry, crushed raspberry, vanilla, mocha and chopped mint framed in robust, velvety tannins. Drink 2017–2023.
